Under The Lights at Kezar Stadium

This Friday night the Padres (2-1) take on Sacred Heart Cathedral (1-2) at Kezar stadium. I remember from my days playing ball at Serra that this venue feels "special" and players bring their best to the field. This match up always proves to be a to tough and exciting game that brings out a big crowd. I'll see you all there!

Back to School Brings Live Football Broadcast

Well it's that time of the year again new classes, teachers, books, faces, and a brand new way to enjoy Serra varsity football in 2009. That's right today is the first day of "regular" school hours for the Padres and with the new school year comes online live football broadcasts for the 2009 varsity season. So no matter where you are you can sit down at your computer and enjoy a Padre football game.

You will be able to gain access to listen to all the games through a link on Serra High's home page at http://www.serrahs.com/. Let us hope that down the road live streaming video will be avaliable to us.

Lacrosse Takes Over Freitas Field

After six games on the road Serra Lacrosse was put on the "big stage" taking over Freitas field for the first real home game ever. With an 11-5 win over the Los Gatos Wildcats I'd say showtime went very well for the team. An exciting first half left the fans craving more when it came to a close with a 2-2 tie. Coach Crowells pep talk in the locker room at half time must have been poetic because the Padres came out in the second half fired up looking to dominate. They did just that capping off the game with a 7 goal fourth quarter putting the icing on a well played game. With a 4-3 record the Padres are standing on top of the 500 mark with high hopes for next weeks home game against Saratoga High School.

First time homebuyers get a tax break.

With the future of the economy up in the air and uncertainty running rampant, the one word I am hearing the most is when. When will things turn around, when will home prices start to rebound, when is the right time to buy. For all these questions I have answer...I don't know. I have heard that by the forth quarter of 2009 things will rebound and we will start to see things turn around, I have also heard that things will get worse before they get better and we will not start to see an upswing until late 2010. What I do know is that qualified buyers and investors will be able to reap the benefits of this stressed market.
The first time homebuyer is recieving an extra incentive from president Obama's stimulus package recently signed into law. They will receive a $8,000 tax credit or 10% of the home value, whichever is less. This is a big improvement on the $7,500 tax credit of 2008 which was more like a low interest loan.
In order to qualify for the credit the home purchase must be made between January 1st and December 1st 2009. You may not have owned a home for the past three years to qualify as a first time buyer, and you must live in the home you purchase for three years or you will be obligated to pay the credit back.
Income restrictions also come into play when trying to qualify for the full tax credit. You must make less then $75,000 for a singles or $150,000 for couples. Higher income buyers may receive a partial credit.
Some buyers even look at this as a discount off the purchase price of the home. A $600,000 purchase becomes a $592,000 purchase. This credit can also be used as a nest egg for the buyers. They would be able to use this for home maintenance, repairs, or even use it to purchase new stuff for their home thus helping to stimulate the economy.

Reflecting On Life As A Padre

The Other day I was driving past Serra and I found myself daydreaming, going down memory lane. I was back on the football field with all my teammates, taking snaps and throwing some passes. Next I found myself on the mound trying to pitch my way out of a jam. Then I went way back, I was on the court playing freshman basketball.

Fantastic times and memories? Definitely... If I could go back and do it all over again I would in a heart beat! These are times in my life that I will always remember, because I was just a kid out there having fun without a care in the world.
